The Nehru English Medium School (a nursery convent) was founded in 1968 to inculcate convent education in the industrial belt area and educate the children of workmen residing in T.S.R Nagar tenements, Thiruvottiyur, Chennai – 19. The school, initially functioning as Nehru Senior Secondary School, was affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) until 1987–88. It was later converted to the Matriculation system under the State Board from 1988–89 and renamed Nehru Matric. Hr. Sec. School.
The school has produced several State Rank Holders and District Level Rank Holders. For 57 years, we’ve been educating our students. Alumni are well-placed globally as Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, and Software Professionals.
Nehru Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvottiyur, Chennai – 19 has consistently achieved outstanding academic results, securing 100% pass percentage in Higher Secondary Board Examinations across multiple academic years, with the majority of students obtaining First Class and Distinction. In 2001, the school proudly celebrated the success of S. Nirmal Jain, who scored 1148/1200 and emerged as the School Topper, earning special recognition and publication in The Hindu (10 June 2001) and Local Weekly Journal (June 2001) for contributing to an exceptional overall performance of 80% First Classes, along with 78% First Classes and 22% Second Classes in Higher Secondary and 70% First Classes and 21% Second Classes in Matriculation. Continuing the legacy of excellence, the school received wide appreciation again in 2002, with an announcement in Local Weekly (June 2002) for securing Centum / 100% Pass Result in Higher Secondary, where all students passed with Distinction and First Class, further strengthening the school’s academic reputation. In 2004, S. Sivashankar brought further pride to the institution by securing State Level Second Rank in Social Studies with 197/200, and his achievement was featured in The New Indian Express (28 May 2004), where his dedication and the school’s support were highlighted. Throughout these years, the combined hard work of the Principal, Secretary, Teachers, Staff, Parents, and Students played a major role in building the school’s strong academic tradition and statewide recognition.
